The Festival and Events in Cameroon play an important role in Cameroon culture. There are a lot of Festival and Events in Cameroon that are enjoyed and celebrated by the local people in the country.

Information on Cameroon

Cameroon is a developing country in central Africa. Though there are many natural and cultural attractions in Cameroon, facilities catering to western-style tourism are quite limited. Yaoundé is the capital of Cameroon. Douala is the country's largest city and is the main port and commercial center of Cameroon. The official languages are French and English, though French prevails in most of the country.

Ngondo Festival

Festivals and Events in Cameroon include the Ngondo Festival of the Sawa. The coastal dwellers of Cameroon from Limbe to Kribi, with the Wouri River are the focal point of the festival in Douala who enjoy the festivals. The ritual and feast which is held in the first week of each December celebrate the unity of the Sawa peoples and their ancestors, those who are the believers of living in the waters. The festival beginning on the banks of the River Wouri includes traditional dances, choral music, handicraft exhibition, a canoe parade and race, a carnival, and the collection of the ancestors message by a diver, from the bottom of the river, contained in a calabash. The Ngouon festival of the Bamoun takes place once every two years which is formerly organized to resolve land disputes, during the second week of December in Foumban and includes horse parades.

Nyem-Nyem Annual Festival

The Nyem-Nyem is also popular among the Festivals and Events in Cameroon. The annual festival in the Adamaoua is centered on Ngaoundere which traces the heroic resistance of the people against German penetration into their land. Every January traditional festivities are held around caves on the top of Mount Djim which is about halfway between Tignere and Tibati, near Galim.
